The Professorship of Journalism Studies at the University of Passau (Professor Oliver Hahn) invites applications for the fixed-term position of Assistant Professor (German job title: Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter/Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin [m/w/d]) The employment start and end dates are 1 October 2021 and 30 September 2022, respectively. This is an 0.5 full-time equivalent position. Remuneration is pro rata (50%) at pay grade E13 of the German public-sector collective agreement (TV-L).1 Key responsibilities * Collaborate on current externally (third-party) funded research projects and assist in acquiring funding for future projects * Organise and coordinate international and national research projects as well as innovative teaching projects * Support the team of the Professorship of Journalism Studies in all academic activities, including publications and conference presentations at the national and international level * Teach four academic hours per week during the semester (1 academic hour = 45 minutes) * Advance your own academic qualification: doctorate or postdoctoral âhabilitationâ qualification Person specification * Very good university degree (doctoral researchers: masterâs degree; postdoctoral researchers: doctorate) in communication science, journalism studies and/or political science * Strong quantitative and qualitative social-empirical research skills are an essential requirement * Experience with externally (third-party) funded research projects would be an advantage * Language skills: o Must be fluent in English (written and spoken) o Good written and spoken German o Other foreign languages (e.g. Spanish, French) would be an advantage o Non-European language skills (e.g. Arabic) and/or, particularly, in South-East Asian languages (e.g. Thai, Bahasa, Burmese) would be an advantage * Hands-on experience in journalism and/or PR would be desirable * Experience living in a foreign country, e.g. gained while studying abroad, but not through holiday travel, would be an advantage * Must be willing to travel extensively in Germany and abroad * Must have excellent computer skills (all Office applications; DTP software such as InDesign; video editing software, e.g. Final Cut and/or Premiere; as well as software such as SPSS and MAXQDA) * Prior experience as a Research Assistant or Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant (or Assistant Professor) would be an advantage Additional information As the University of Passau wishes to raise the proportion of its female academic staff, women are expressly encouraged to apply.
